A Year in Review

Hello and Happy Holidays to each and every guest who has passed through the doors of The Hollinger House Bed & Breakfast throughout 2018! We thought it would be a great time to use one of our blog posts to say thank you to all of the people who helped make 2018 a unique year for events at The Hollinger House. While we’ve always offered events, this year brought on new challenges, new recipes, new friends, and of course, new events and gatherings. We couldn’t do these functions without your great ideas and cooperation, so here’s a look at what you’ve all done with us!

Our Fall Harvest Bisque.

First up is the adventure of hosting a 98th birthday party for one of our dear guest’s (and now friend’s) mother! Her mother, who resides at Willow Valley Communities and lives literally across the street on the other side of 222, wanted a classic and elegant luncheon but didn’t want it to be overly stuffy.

These ageless women wanted to enjoy themselves, and there were even multiple quips about “tap dancing on the tables.” It was an absolute blast to serve them! To keep things simple, but delicious, we decided to start the lunch off with a Fall Harvest Bisque, complete with local carrots, butternut squash, onion, and plenty of ginger. The main course was to be on the lighter side, so we decided on a Turkey, Brie, and Cranberry Quiche, flanked by a Pear, Walnut, and Feta salad. The dessert was a lovely cake provided by Willow Valley. This was a personal highlight of the year and we cannot wait to host her 99th!

Rice Pilaf, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, and Chicken Picatta.

For as many birthday parties, baby showers, and bridal showers that we’ve done at The Hollinger House, we had never experienced the joy of a rehearsal dinner until this past November! The bride and groom-to-be decided to have 34 of their closest family and friends over for a buffet-style dinner that doubled as an incredibly fun celebration for all involved.

They kept the wine flowing and we kept the food coming with Chicken Piccata in a Lemon and Caper Sauce, Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Garlic, Onion, and a Balsamic Reduction, and a Rice Pilaf with Onion, Bell Pepper, and Pistachios. Before the celebration came to its conclusion, we brought out our Homemade Vanilla Cupcakes topped with a Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting. With a group like this, it was easy to enjoy ourselves as much as they enjoyed their time together.

Our Cucumber and Avocado Tea Sandwiches from the Victorian Christmas Tea.

Everyone who knows the two of us (Brandy & Theodore, your innkeepers) know that we’re obsessed with Christmas: ugly sweaters, sparkling Santa hats, gaudy lights in our living quarters and all, and we couldn’t wait to finally have a Victorian Christmas Tea at The Hollinger House! We’ll go into more detail in our next blog about upcoming teas and what you can expect from them, but for now we’ll just leave you with a taste of what we did in picture form!

Thank you again to everyone who passed through The Hollinger House this year. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2019, as well as meeting so many new, interesting and unique people. As always, thank you for choosing to stay with us and have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
