Lancaster Roots & Blues

Downtown Lancaster’s local music scene is at its finest during the Roots & Blues Festival. This year’s festival runs March 9th, 10th & 11th 2018. This is the festival’s fifth year in Lancaster and they are featuring exciting acts in some of the coolest venues Lancaster has to offer.

Lancaster Roots & Blues celebrates the roots of American music with genre defying artists from all flavors of blues, jazz, soul, rock, Americana, reggae, ska, Celtic, funk, bluegrass and more. You’ll find eye-catching boutique stores, eclectic venues and buzzing bars and restaurants as you walk from venue to venue. Highlights include The Village Nightclub,  a Lancaster landmark for over 50 years and the area’s largest nightclub- The SugarTank, a recording studio and intimate performance venue hosting 3 VIP-only performances- and Zoetropolis, a local art theater and unique event space that’s a favorite of Lancaster locals.

This year’s lineup features acts from all stages of their careers from young newcomers to legends in their fields. One of the highlights of the festival is Shemekia Copeland, a Harlem blues and soul singer who “roars with sizzling hot intensity” according to The Boston Globe. Shemekia started touring with her father, Blues musician Johnny Clyde Copeland, when she was 16 and found her own spotlight only two years later. Since then she’s been nominated for 2 Grammy Awards, including a nomination for her sophomore album. She’ll be shaking up the Main Stage at the Lancaster County Convention Center on Sunday afternoon.

Legendary harmonica player from Boston’s legendary J. Geils Band, Magic Dick, has paired up with international star Shun Ng to “make music in a way that no one [has] quite done before while remaining grounded in [their] roots,” according to Ng. They promise to rock The Village Nightclub Saturday Night.

What better way to enjoy this local tradition than in the comfort of a Lancaster, PA Bed and Breakfast. The Inns of Lancaster County, PA celebrate the same passion for people and dedication to community you’ll find at the Roots & Blues Festival.
